#KathmanduDiaries - Would you let your seat for needy ones while in a public vehicle?
The bus was crowded as always and I was standing, trying to balance myself in that crowd - doing so are other people. And there was a traffic jam upto Koteshwor, as always again.
A woman boarded into a bus from Manohara bridge. She was carrying a little baby. Imagine now, how difficult it would have been to her? Our difficulties, relatively and comparably, are quite nothing then. But nobody offered her a seat!!
After a couple of minutes, there was this one fine lady, who was also standing -- she requested a man to give his seat to that 'mother'. That very 'man', with a lot of weight, was sitting right beside the standing mother. But NO! He didn't let his precious seat. Instead, he threw quite a disgusting look. Seriously!!
No wonder, the fine lady got disgusted too. "How can you just stay right there without helping? It is really being difficult for her, you can see that. And what is this staring? Why would you give that look?" she said, in return of which the man threw the same annoying look again.
Meanwhile, the 'mother' struggled past few people to the opposite corner as the young lady there offered her a seat. We hadn't arrived Koteshwor yet, courtesy traffic jam.
Strange! Some people are just so rude with such a disgusting behaviour. And luckily while we all are remaining silent, there are few people like that fine lady, who can raise their voice for right cause.
For an instant, let's assume that that fat man didn't give his seat because he felt it would be difficult for him to stand in that crowd considering his overweight. Fine, but still it was wrong to not help the one in need. It was not some long journey, but merely few minutes. Usually, in such situations in public vehicles, people often offer help because it is the right thing. It is called common sense!
Yes, there are reservations for women, senior citizens and disabled people. And talking about equality, let's be fair and fairly equal - women can stand too, just like men. Every passengers have to adjust the same way in public vehicles. But some situations like I mentioned earlier are different. Wouldn't anybody let their seat for a pregnant woman, or a woman carrying a little baby, or a disabled person?
It is not a big cost one has to pay for, but a small gesture of helpfulness. It is called Morality, Humanity, a Common Sense!! Let's try as much as we can to offer a help in such conditions. It shouldn't be a big deal, but a right thing everyone does.
