#KathmanduDiaries - meSSed up daily liFe and a commoner's view on current scenario

Image
It has been almost two weeks of the miserable life in Kathmandu. Everybody is angry, which is very obvious and normal feeling for the time being. Meanwhile, it has been almost two months of such misery in Terai. What would have been life there like!! This ‘undeclared’ blockade of India to Nepal has been turning the lives of Nepalese messed up. The fuel scarcity is in its peak - results being seen daily on the streets of Kathmandu. The long traffic jams are no more and the road sees very less vehicles running. Instead, long queues of vehicles are seen at the oil pumps. The crowd in public vehicles is skyrocketed! It has been okay not to follow the traffic rules. Every public vehicle from buses to micro-buses is carrying passengers on hood, on ladder at the back of vehicle, on doors and windows too! The number of people walking all the way is growing each day. There is no choice as is no fuel. The hotels are slowly being closed due to unavailability of cooking gas. The markets ...

Happiness of Nepali people: The Constitution Day (Asoj 3, 2072)

Image
photo credit: facebook.com/memenepal I have a sense of happiness today. Like any other normal Nepali person, I am happy for the very Nepal Constitution 2072. It is indeed a historic day. What is making it more joyous is seeing people celebrating the day with excitement. It looked like the day of Laxmipuja in Tihar. This time, Deepawali is celebrated before Dashain and we will celebrate it again for sure. I don’t care with the political agendas as l ong as they do not harm the peace of our country. This time around, the biggies have compromised and united to give birth to the constitution. I wish this unity to long last forever. And I hope there will soon be amendment with unsatisfied parties and they too will join this unity. For our country, for people. What would be more beautiful than unity and harmony? photo credit: Republica Daily It is ordinary that hundred percent cannot be satisfied at once. As it is said, even the thing like deciding what vegetable to co...

#KathmanduDiaries - Would you let your seat for needy ones while in a public vehicle?

The bus was crowded as always and I was standing, trying to balance myself in that crowd - doing so are other people. And there was a traffic jam upto Koteshwor, as always again. A woman boarded into a bus from Manohara bridge. She was carrying a little baby. Imagine now, how difficult it would have been to her? Our difficulties, relatively and comparably, are quite nothing then. But nobody offered her a seat!! After a couple of minutes, there was this one fine lady, who was also standing -- she requested a man to give his seat to that 'mother'. That very 'man', with a lot of weight, was sitting right beside the standing mother. But NO! He didn't let his precious seat. Instead, he threw quite a disgusting look. Seriously!! No wonder, the fine lady got disgusted too. " How can you just stay right there without helping? It is really being difficult for her, you can see that. And what is this staring? Why would you give that look? " she said, in...

Conflicts - Bloods and Scars & A thin ray of Hope

Image
"नेपाली हामी रहौंला कहाँ नेपालै नरहे"   Back on April, strong earthquake hit our country leaving thousands of lives shattered and the heart of Nepalese devastated. Nepal Police and Army were the first helping hands in that time of grief and disaster. Today, seven officers lost their souls in a peaceful movement! Yes, they had called it a peaceful movement! An officer was burnt alive. An officer was stabbed by a spear. A two year old kid of a constable was shot by a gun, inside his home. It is feeling very painful to write this – we are more heartbroken today, a #BlackMonday, by Tikapur incident. So-called protesters brutally murdered the police officers in the name of riot. How could one Nepali murder other Nepali? Shame on us... Many have said many things on the topic. People have got very disgusted and are angered which can be seen on the Facebook and Twitter posts. Who wouldn’t be? What has happened today is totally shameful. See from the eyes of the par...

Rainbow pictures and the actual cause

Image
The legalization that America recently declared happened here quite ago, few years back in Nepal. Anyway, it’s good to cheer up the equality. Love wins after all. Love is what matters at the end. And for supporting this very case, Facebook created a rainbow effect – symbolizing the Rainbow flag of Gay community. So, facebook walls were all painted with rainbow colors on profile pictures for a while. Now the question is, were all of them supporters for real? Answers are all spilled up on troll photos. No doubts, there are a bunch of real supporters. Not only LGBT communities, heterosexuals are equally standing by the cause as well. Now, for the complaining mouths or say, hands in today’s networking scene, one doesn’t need to be an animal to support animal rights or a woman to support women rights! But, not everyone with rainbow highlighted dp are supporters of this same-sex marriage legalization in America. Many of them supported the cause without actually knowing what the cause i...

Gestures of Help and Support #postEarthquake

Image
It brought the never seen before disaster with that almost a minute long strong shaking of ground. It is still haunting people with aftershocks, which have been routined almost as good morning shocks and good night shocks. Moreover, the thunderstorms are competing with the tremors now. Death toll has crossed eight thousands and the number of injured has reached almost eighteen thousands. Dharahara, Basantapur, Temples, villages, roads….none are left from the devastation. But the rays of hope are shining, that we will rise again. Volunteer Batch from Bibeksheel Nepali In these tougher times, the gestures of help shown by the fellow countries, youths of Nepal and the police and armies are totally overwhelming and supportive. Every bit of help from every single person is accounted. The kind of support, interest and unity we have come across during this period only shows that Together We Rise . Irrespective of class, caste or religion, we have come united to help the country and ...

We're as devastated as our cultural heritages are. We're as heartbroken as our brothers and sisters are. We've lost too much to keep calm. We're as shaken as the tremors shook our Nepal. But, we have hopes. Thank you all the people and all the countries for helping us in these darkest hours of our country. Now, we see Humanity exists. Thank you for every single gesture of help. (photo source: facebook) We're lucky that we are safe, have shelters under tents on nearby field and have foods to eat. Many   out there are helpless. Many of us are volunteering, and many of us are willing but not being able as the fear has hit us hard and are out of clue to start from where. But, let's try...as much as we can do. Share a packet of noodle or a bottle of water, anything we think is necessary. Rest in peace all the lost souls. Get well soon injured folks. Stay safe lucky ones. If God has something to do with this disaster, God will also look after us. Yes, we...

Increasing Women Violence and Our Mindset: Gender Discrimination and Gender Equality

Why are a majority of women in our country backward? Is it because there is a male-dominated society in Nepal? Yes, to some extent. But so is the world overall. And whilst world is suffering from the problem, have we thought deeply about the issue and its causes and solutions? The current time is transition phase all over the world when there comes the question of gender equality. It definitely takes quite a time to eradicate the gender discrimination completely but to let time carry all the duties on its shoulder is a big no-no. Change must come first in us and in our way of thinking. Change must start from the home. This problem might seem lesser in frequency or priority in developed nations but in the developing countries like ours, it is the most serious social problem, from ages back to the moment now. So, are we really behaving like a human or just showing off our humane words on social networking sites? People are more educated and literate now. Media is much more powerfu...
