One Short Trip in Night Bus

It was too much of Shankar BC already. I think he is kinda Lok Dohori Ambassador; almost every Lok Dohori music video has him dancing…madly. I was travelling with the site manager sir in a night bus to Terai (Dang, to be specific) for a new job. By the time we had crossed Thankot, I was already too bored with the Dohoris.

I plucked out earphones from my ears when this video came up on screen because I heard the dohori more than the songs being played on my phone. Pashupati Sharma’s lok dohori was refreshing though. Je garna ne garo was fun in both words and visuals. Dohori ended! Then, two men appeared complaining about fashion of youngsters in Kathmandu with not so nice music. Why do public vehicles, specially on a long tour, play these sort of songs?

Finally, Shahid Kapoor came dancing like crazy with Sonakshi Sinha for matchmaking like the Saree ka Fall, but the young man on seat before me was asking for some actions. He was also complaining about not-working Free Wi-Fi. Meanwhile, I was having different feelings that I always get during goodbye and Lorde was humming yellow flicker beats in my ears.

Later while my some sense was dancing with Jaalma, led screen in the bus was showing Jeevan Luitel asking Garima Panta if he would die seeing her beauty. And that was not okay with another young man at the seat beside mine; he was mentioning names of Rajesh Hamal, Biraj Bhatta and Nikhil Upreti. Other people were asking to lower their seats. Loud speakers of buses always overdo the earphones!

I was asleep, but with half my eyes open, and noticed closed shutters in Narayangadh and Butwal. Cities of Nepal do not stay awake late but the Police check-posts surely do. Cold breeze was coming from the window opened slightly, it was better than the not-so-working AC inside the bus. At the mid 2:20 am, sir waked me up; we stepped out of the bus on the Terai land. I was feeling sleepy, and that new place for me! It was Kapilvastu, not Dang.

We crossed the street and arrived at office building. It was almost like Bhoot Ghar!! Watery narrow passage, old walls with stains of paan and khaini, spider webs all over corners and ceilings! The bed I slept was as old as old man coughing. It shook every time I shook my head or turned over my sides. Mosquitoes enjoyed having sip of my blood. Thank god, I got sleep after all!

Next morning, we reached at new workplace in Dang. The block I’m residing at lies in Arghakhanchi district and the Rapti river along which canal is to be constructed is in Dang. This side is Western Development Region and the bazaar across the bridge is Mid-western. North from here is all hills and south looks all plain. Geography!
