#KathmanduDiaries - Beginning and Overview
For the group of people like us,
our Kathmandu diaries mostly start right after we are done with our SLC exams.
You might already have understood by now that whom people-like-us mean. I
cannot generalize things for all but there are things that are likely common
for people who belong to middle class family from out-of-valley. I, being one, am
trying to share some pieces of my life here in the valley through this blog and
somewhere amidst these blogging and sharing, I feel that I can relate many matters
to others and theirs to mine.
Coming to the capital as a kid
with parents and coming to the capital to stay by yourself for the sake of
study and stuff are much different. One has grown up enough to live alone (not
literally though) and needs to grow further, for the future. One is now not holding
hands of mom-dad and following them to the zoo and cinema halls. The excitement
and nervousness for college life replace those amusements and fun as a kid. It’s
all about TIME, why should I brag much, eh?
I was thirteen and half years old
when I started my living in Kathmandu with my elder brother. (So, not alone!) To
be honest, I felt too homesick for first few months. For about most of the
matters, I recalled my past and compared with present, it made me feel sad. Anyway,
that was that – initial pages. We rented two rooms and since then, we have been
living here, only now the number of rooms has increased to three. Lucky us, we haven’t
got to migrate from one place to another, unlike many others have to face in
Kathmandu. Regarding homesickness, it did not get high as Dad visited every
month or two, and Mom once or twice in a year; plus we used to go to home on
every vacation of more than a week period and also, our mama-maijus, aunt-uncle
and cousins were nearby.
It’s been eight years and plus
now. So as practical as it might sound, many things have changed in the course.
Almost every materialistic matter has changed except the rooms I live in. Like the
streets that become nice today and all potholes on next month, load shedding
surely makes an inevitable part of living in the valley. One thing that has
been going on is – DREAMS. AMBITION comes along. After crossing many phases of
life, DREAMS never tend to the end. If one gets the wings of reality, there come
hundreds of others to fly.
Kathmandu is like that thing
which you may love or hate but cannot ignore. Kathmandu, for Nepal, is the
ocean where millions of lives dive into for searching the prosperity,
struggling with the tides and waves of life. This city is magnetic – it attracts
all as if we are iron bodies. I am among one of the all – one individual body
in the crowded city of dreams – a character in it’s story.
