Together Forever: Old Couples

Many people in love often take a vow to live together and die together. May be it’s the influence of movies and love songs! Of course, they can live together but not all of them get lucky enough to die together. May be not anyone! I have seen such things in movies only. However, passing so many years together is really admirable. Sharing joys and grieves with each other, taking care of one another for a long time without getting love fade away might be a tough task but not impossible. Seeing old couples reminds me so. May be this very experience becomes the perks of being old when you reach that stage in your life.

Looking into my own life, I have very loving grandparents who are now in their sixties and obviously, the natural rituals of oldness have been covering them for long time now. Whenever they are about to visit the hospital, my grandmother says, “it is difficult for him to go alone, he cannot see properly; if I go with him, it will be easy to take care of him.”And I think how can she because I know it is more difficult for her than him to walk because she gets tired soon due to her knee-pain. But she always says so, and the reason is very obvious – love and care. Despite having own pain, she always prioritizes him, always goes to hospital with him, always takes care of him more than herself. He does the same in return.

Many other couples might do the same. Old couples have had come a long way, so these love and care things are there in every other matters. The point is- I see eternal love in these small things. These very common doings have love hidden in them. They don’t need any red roses or expensive gifts to show their love. It’s the unselfish act of heart that counts the most. To see love dwelling and happiness blossoming in small matters is always precious and is the true meaning of love. When I see them, I feel that is what together forever means. I feel if it’s not love, then what is?

Happy Valentine to all of the beautiful old couples, which I’m sure most of them don’t know about and don’t celebrate anyway. (In context of Nepal) They celebrate love every day. Look around folks, love is everywhere. Don't you think so?
